AMBER & DAMIAN SHEBER
When you change, everything will change for you. Six months from now, a year from now, 10 years from now—what’s going to be different? Nothing, unless we decide to do something different going forward.
I was going through some old Nike ads and I was struck by one that read simply, “Yesterday you said tomorrow.” If you think about it, that’s powerful. LegalShield allows us to live in the realm of the possible instead of the mediocre. It allows anyone to pursue any dream. The membership allows those without status to have a voice. The opportunity allows those who would otherwise be relegated to a life that Thoreau described as one “of quiet desperation” to instead lead lives of influence and to create legacies for their families.
Yesterday you said tomorrow. Now is the time to dare to do something different. I’ve had jobs that I hated and jobs that I loved. What I found is that neither is worth my life. Most people would say, “You mean time, don’t you?” To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, time is the stuff of which life is made. I hope you like your job—in fact, I hope you love it—but is it worth your life? At the end of your life will you be looking back wishing you had spent more time at the office, the plant, the warehouse? Or will you be wishing you had spent more time with the family, traveling to distant lands, experiencing unique experiences, investing in other people? We only go around once. NOW is the time to make the change that will lead to a remarkable life!
Yesterday you said tomorrow. I am so grateful for the people who refused to settle for average. They didn’t focus on the easy or the probable. They pursued the possible and achieved it! Then they turned around to see who else they could help. It’s beyond my ability to express my appreciation. So let me simply say thank you to Ken Moore, John Hoffman, Mike Humes, Dave Hall and Darnell Self. I would not be the person I am today without the influence of these men. To Cliff Malloy, Tony Petrill, Mike Melia, Steve Melia, Don Thompson and Ted Ma, I say thank you for having crucial conversations with me at critical times during my journey. To the next generation of leaders, including Joe Wallace, Shawn and Shauna Bailey, Lilly Palacios and Beth Sheber, thank you for stepping out on faith and pursuing the possible and for wanting to help others do the same.
I don’t know what your particular situation is. Maybe you’re are looking for a way to supplement your income or to change careers. Maybe you’re looking for a way to spend more time with the family or for a more flexible schedule so that you can have more time to pursue your passions. Maybe you never go on vacation or never had a honeymoon. That was the story for Amber and me. No honeymoon and only one vacation in our first 13 years of marriage. But since getting started with LegalShield, we’ve earned 13 incentive trips in 11 years. The best vacations are paid for by someone else.
If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you will keep getting what you’ve always gotten. Decide to do something different. Change your mind and you change your life. My friend Mike Humes says that greatness is found on the edge of destruction. Another friend, Mike Bishop, encourages everyone to live legendary. Yesterday you said tomorrow. Seize the day.
