About James

James (Jim) Foltmer is a Colorado native born and raised in the Denver metro area. Jim received an LSAT scholarship to Thomas Jefferson School of Law where he graduated number 8 in his class of 108. During law school, Jim was recognized and one of San Diego County’s volunteers of the year in 2000 for his work with the Alternate Public Defender’s Office. He also completed the Pro Bono Honor’s Program at Thomas Jefferson. After graduating law school and being admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2001, Jim worked as a Deputy District Attorney for Colorado’s 15th Judicial Branch where he tried many county and district court cases including dozens of successful jury trials. In 2003, Jim moved back to Denver and began focusing on bankruptcy, HOA, collection and landlord/tenant matters. Jim returned to Riggs Abney in July 2011 because of the camaraderie amongst the staff and the ability, through Legal Shield, to help those who normally cannot afford attorney representation. Jim’s practice focuses primarily on bankruptcy and landlord/tenant law but he is always anxious to represent Legal Shield members under their Trial Defense Benefits when the opportunity arises. Jim spends his free time coaching his 7 year old son’s flag football team and is a member of the Historic Olde Town Association in Arvada Colorado.
