This plan covers the member only. For broader family coverage or additional legal needs, see our full list of personal plans.
The Young Adult Legal Plan is a legal membership designed for students and young adults navigating life on their own for the first time. For $14.95 a month, you get direct access to a law firm for the legal situations that come up most in your twenties, including traffic tickets, tenant disputes, and everyday legal questions.
Your plan includes:
The Young Adult Legal Plan is focused on the legal situations most common in early adulthood. It does not cover personal injury claims, civil lawsuits, family law, estate planning, real estate transactions, business matters, or other matters covered under LegalShield's full Personal or Small Business Plans. If you need broader coverage, you can upgrade to a Basic, Advanced, or Premium Personal Plan or purchase a Small Business Plan at any time.
The plan covers you only — the named member. It does not extend to a spouse, partner, or dependents. If you need coverage for family members, a LegalShield Personal Plan may be a better fit.
The Young Adult Legal Plan is $14.95 per month, billed monthly. An annual payment option is also available at $119.40 per year. There are no enrollment fees or long-term commitments required.
For most covered services, your coverage begins immediately on the day you enroll. The one exception is moving traffic violations. There is a 10-day waiting period from your membership start date before traffic ticket coverage takes effect. Pre-existing legal events are excluded. Each ticket must be submitted to your provider law firm within 14 days of the date it was issued. Protection from domestic violence services are available 90 days after the start of your membership.
Moving traffic violations are covered under the plan, with a few things to know. First, there is a 10-day waiting period from your enrollment date. Tickets received before your membership was active or within the first 10 days are not covered. Second, the plan covers one moving violation per year. Third, if a provider lawyer needs to appear in court on your behalf, a $79 court appearance fee applies. If your membership is past the 10-day mark, contact your provider law firm as soon as possible; they must receive your ticket within 14 days of the date it was issued.
Your plan includes 24/7 emergency legal access for four specific situations: you are being detained or questioned by law enforcement, you are involved in an accident where someone is seriously injured, you are served with a warrant, or you are being detained or questioned by a child welfare agency regarding a minor child in your custody or control. In any of these situations, you can call the emergency line and speak with a provider lawyer immediately, any time of day or night. For all other covered matters, your provider law firm is available during regular business hours.
You can reach your provider law firm by phone, through the LegalShield mobile app, or online through your member account. Your provider law firm is staffed by real lawyers, not an automated service.
Yes. You can upgrade at any time. Other LegalShield Personal Plans start at $39.95 per month and cover a much broader range of legal matters, including family law, estate planning, and more. They also extend coverage to your spouse and, depending on the tier, your dependents. Contact us or visit your member account to upgrade whenever you're ready.
Yes. Monthly plan subscriptions can be canceled at any time. There are no cancellation fees. If you have questions about cancellation, contact our member services team or manage your membership through your online account.
No, but it gives you something most people your age don't have: real lawyers you can call when you need one. A provider lawyer can advise you, review documents, write letters on your behalf, and represent you in covered matters. The plan is designed to make legal help accessible and affordable.
Yes. While the Young Adult Legal Plan is designed with students and young adults in mind, it is available to anyone who wants focused legal coverage for the situations it covers. If you need broader legal protection — for family, estate planning, real estate, or other matters — a full LegalShield Personal Plan may be a better fit. See our pricing page to compare.
Your plan includes access to MEMBERPerks, a discount program that lets you save money on hundreds of merchants — things you’re already buying.
