Scott Howard and his wife Lucy Kivel are the founding members of Kivel & Howard LLP, a Portland-based law firm. Kivel & Howard provide legal services to closely held businesses. Scott’s primary role involves guiding the overall direction of the firm and consulting with the firm’s clients. He works primarily in the areas of business planning and transactions, succession planning, estate planning, and charitable planning. Scott’s community involvement includes supporting Oregon non-profit organizations as an advisor and through committee and board membership. Scott has served on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Symphony Association, the Oregon Ballet Theater and the Multnomah Athletic Club.

Kristen McEvoy grew up in Charleston, South Carolina before moving to Portland, Oregon in 2017 to attend law school. Prior to becoming an attorney, Kristen served as an airman in the United States Air Force. She subsequently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University in 2016. Then, Kristen attended law school at Lewis & Clark Law School, where she served on the law review. Kristen has experience in immigration and criminal matters. Currently, Kristen is a member of the Multnomah Bar Association.

Ian is an enthusiastic and grateful practitioner of the wide range of legal topics he faces every day in his work with LegalShield members. Before arriving at Kivel and Howard LLP, Ian focused his legal career on debtor/creditor and consumer finance and protection matters – specifically maintaining his own busy consumer bankruptcy practice for many years. His experience and expertise in bankruptcy law has helped many hundreds of individuals and families find much needed relief from their seemingly insurmountable financial difficulties. Ian has served on the executive committees of both the Debtor/Creditor and Consumer Sections of the Oregon State Bar and helped plan and present at a variety of lawyer education seminars over the years. Ian Wallace has lived and practiced law in Portland since graduating from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2000. Before settling in Oregon for his legal career, he received his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Davis, and then participated in the Peace Corps program in Senegal, West Africa. Now an old-timer in the Portland community, he still loves the fascinating and fun food and music scene of Portland but ends up spending most of his non-working time these days tending to his dog/cats and watching in awe as his beautiful and smart daughter grows up. He could also stand to exercise a bit more.

Devin Flynn, originally of Southern California, married an Oregon native who had little trouble convincing him of the Northwest's superiority. Devin chose to attend Lewis & Clark Law School with the intention of practicing in Portland. Since graduating law school, Devin has worked extensively in representing individuals and businesses in personal injury, trucking and transportation, and consumer law matters. Devin has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation. A skilled negotiator, he has negotiated many favorable settlements for his clients. Devin brings a broad base of experience to Kivel & Howard. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Devin tried on a number of hats before finding one that fit. His experience includes: work in commercial construction and home remodeling; managing sales and finance for several large auto dealerships; and designing and managing the production of several full-suspension mountain bikes in the 1990's. Devin's diversity of experience continues to be extremely useful as an attorney. Outside his law practice, Devin and his wife, Bridget, have many adventures with their three boys and daughter. Devin is a Den Leader in a Cub Scout Pack and he has been a coach on several youth baseball and basketball teams. Devin is an avid cyclist and has competed in a fair number of triathlons, including Ironman Arizona.

Don Stait has focused his practice on advising clients regarding employment law issues, including policies and procedures, charges of discrimination and harassment, wrongful discharge, and wage claims in both class actions and single plaintiff litigation. Before joining Kivel & Howard, Don spent ten years practicing law for the nation’s largest labor and employment law firm. Prior to attending law school, Don served as a law clerk in the corporate law department of a major retail chain. When not house-bound by a pandemic, Don plays racquetball and frequents movie theaters. Lately, he has been spending his time reading and enjoying his family including a feral feline and a fearless, eighteen pound grand-dog. Don received his JD from Lewis and Clark Northwestern School of Law in 2010

Greg Woods is an attorney licensed in Oregon and Washington. For over 10 years, Greg has supported clients in their business needs as they navigate a myriad of business licensing, regulation, compliance, and contract requirements. He has experience in working with clients to draft and review contracts, resolve disputes between business partners, and counsel managers on their legal matters. Greg began his legal career at the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, has practiced complex commercial litigation at a large firm, and served as Corporate Counsel for a publicly-held bio-technology start-up company. He enjoys developing pragmatic solutions to various business-related matters. Prior to joining Kivel & Howard, Greg worked as a Financial Analyst at Prudential Financial and DuCharme, McMillen & Associates. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Business and George Mason University School of Law. There he earned a concentration in Corporate & Securities law. In his free time, Greg enjoys spending time with his wife, Jessica, and their two sons. They can frequently be found skiing, hiking, touring local wineries, or cheering on the Timbers.
