Steven Martin

About

Before joining Powers Chapman, Mr. Martin was employed by the UAW-GM-Ford Legal Services Plan. There he was a litigation specialist practicing primarily consumer litigation in Oakland County. His other main role was to represent union members and their families in filing bankruptcies in Federal Court in Detroit, Michigan. His focus was seeking relief under Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. In June of 1999, Mr. Martin followed former colleague Craig Tarpinian to the growing staff of Powers Chapman. His current areas of expertise include insurance, consumer litigation, collections, real estate, traffic law and bankruptcy. Since joining Powers Chapman, Mr. Martin's primary practice continues to be bankruptcy law, counseling hundreds of debtors and creditors in all areas of finance discharge under the Bankruptcy Code. The state of the law has changed significantly after the 2005 changes to the U.S. Bankruptcy Code under the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act, which requires additional -means- testing for all cases as well as mandatory paperless filing. Mr. Martin looks forward to continuing to build his successful bankruptcy practice in the Metro Detroit area and beyond.

FAQs

Is LegalShield a law firm?

No, we’re not. For the last 48 years we’ve worked to build long-standing partnerships with high-quality law firms across the U.S. and Canada–today totalling 39 firms. Our network includes 900+ attorneys, with an average of 22 years experience ensuring that no matter your location or legal matter there’s a qualified legal expert ready to assist you. We’ve found the best of the best already so you don’t have to do the work of shopping around.

Is LegalShield an attorney referral service?

Again, no. Instead, we partner with legal firms across the U.S. and Canada. When you become a member, you gain access to an entire law firm in your state. This ensures that you match with a qualified attorney to handle your immediate legal needs AND offers additional security for whatever legal issues may arise in the future. For example, you may join to consult with an estate attorney on drafting your Will but later get advice from a consumer finance attorney over an incorrect insurance claim or help from a traffic attorney to dispute a moving violation. In other words, you’re connected to an entire provider firm covering a vast array of legal practices instead of an individual attorney who only practices a specific type of law.

How long until I can talk to an attorney?

Most memberships are processed in 1 business day. Once membership processed, attorneys are committed to returning calls in 4 business hours or less, and are available 24/7 for legal emergencies.

Can you confirm that my specific situation is covered?

Most day-to-day legal issues are covered by the standard member benefits with no additional fees. Regardless of your specific legal issue, as a member you can consult with your provider attorney on an unlimited number of personal legal issues. Plus, your provider attorney can make phone calls and write letters on your behalf and can review and provide feedback on an unlimited number of personal legal documents.

Feel free to call 1 (855) 254-5852 or chat and speak with one of our amazing customer service reps if you have more detailed questions.

Do I get to pick the attorney I’ll speak with?

When you become a member, we do the work of finding the best attorney to fit your needs. Save time and reduce the stress of searching for an attorney. Just call us and an intake specialist will go over your issue and assign your case to the most qualified attorney at your provider firm. If your assigned provider attorney is ever not quite the right fit for you for whatever reason you can request to work with another attorney at any point.
