And while Law Day may not garner as much enthusiasm and attention as other holidays, there is reason for Americans to tune in and acknowledge the significance of this day, as it comes at a time when recognizing the value of law has never been more relevant.
Each Law Day possesses a specific theme, and this year’s theme is the rule of law, which the American Bar Association (ABA) defines as a “set of principles, or ideals, for ensuring an orderly and just society. Many countries throughout the world strive to uphold the rule of law where no one is above the law, everyone is treated equally under the law, everyone is held accountable to the same laws, there are clear and fair processes for enforcing laws, there is an independent judiciary, and human rights are guaranteed for all.”
The notion that everyone deserves equal treatment under the law reminds us what America was founded on, and in 2021, that belief and strong value is more significant than ever.
